Gryphon and Folkcat Go Geocaching

This Blog is Officially Closed

Filed under: Milford Memory Box — Gryphon @ 3:30 pm

It actually has been for some time, but I hadn’t moved the posts to my regular blog. We are no longer doing any geocaching or letterboxing, but I wanted the history to be saved. That’s done now, so you can see the old posts at my regular blog: The Grove.

The Milford Memory Box is going away

Filed under: Geocaching Adventures, Milford Memory Box — Gryphon @ 3:09 am

We stopped at the park a week ago and found the cache missing. None of the groups that do maintenance at the park took the box, so we have to assume it was stolen. The Milford Cabinet will run a news item about this, with contact information. We hope to get the box back so we can scan the photos to post here.

Whether or not we get the cache box back, we intend to retire the cache. I may well place a cache closer to home in Wilton. I’ll post about it when that happens.

In the meantime, many thanks to the people who signed the log and left memories. It made our first geocache quite a memorable one.

We Haven’t Vanished…

Filed under: Milford Memory Box — Gryphon @ 1:39 pm

…really, we haven’t. The Milford Memory Box continues to see lots of visits from geocachers.

Our own geocaching activities died off severely over the winter, and we’re busy enough now that I’m not sure when we’ll go seeking again. But rest assured that the Memory Box will still be maintained.

The Box currently contains around a half dozen memories, which we are hoping to retrieve soon for posting to this blog. Once we’ve done that, they will be returned to the Box for geocachers to view as well.

Administrivia Day

Filed under: Milford Memory Box — Gryphon @ 5:49 pm

I am removing the “Recently Updated Blogs” frame from the side bar. Since I have retired five blogs - and consolidated their subjects under a single new blog - there is far less for readers to keep up with.

Here’s the list of currently active blogs:

  • I Knit Around - This is now my primary blog, covering knitting (and other fiber-crafting), cooking, geocaching, and anything else that happens that isn’t beading. This will likely be posted to from 3 to 5 times a week.
  • Confessions of a Chantraphile - My beading blog remains as a separate entity. I expect I’ll post here at least once or twice a week.
  • Folkcat’s Craft Library - You can still browse through my craft book collection - at least as fast as I get it entered. Since each entry is a catalog listing for a book, this could be posted to once a week, once a month, or ten times in a day.
  • The Milford Memory Box - Once we have items worth collecting from the Memory Box and posting, this will be where to find them. Posting here will likely be very sporadic, as the Memory Box collection doesn’t grow quickly.

My retired blogs will remain available as archives. You can reach them through my web hub at Jenny Kubeck on the Web.

Thank You for MMB Letter in Milford Cabinet, Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005

Filed under: Milford Memory Box — Gryphon @ 10:37 pm

I wrote a thank you letter to the Milford Cabinet - also thanking the Toadstool Book Shop and reporter Daymond Steer - for everyone’s involvement with the Milford Memory Box. It was published in this week’s paper.

The Memory Box continues to see visitors. Team Monarchs are the most recent, and they picked up Larry the TB to take home with them for a visit.

I’m glad to see people are having so much fun with this simple idea - sharing memories. And I’m very glad to see people discovering Emerson Park, too. The response is pretty universal - “I never knew this was here!” Well, now they do, and they’re generally glad of it!

A Bug in the System

Filed under: Milford Memory Box — Gryphon @ 7:07 pm

Gryphon and I released Larry the Cucumber Travel Bug into the Milford Memory Box today. We’ve had a pleasant visit with Larry while he stayed here, but I think even he was ready to move on. As we placed him in the box, he said “Oookaaaaay!”

Larry, it’s been nice knowing you. Happy travels!

Travel Bug Accounted For

Filed under: Milford Memory Box — Gryphon @ 7:39 pm

The Newfie Bullet Travel Bug, that had been logged into the Milford Memory Box, was recently reported as missing by one cache finder. It has now been picked up in a cache in Massachusetts. Apparently, someone found the Memory Box and retrieved the TB from it without logging the find at www.geocaching.com. The good news is, it’s no longer missing in action, and it’s travels can once again be properly tracked.

Memory Box Report

Filed under: Milford Memory Box — Gryphon @ 4:32 pm

To this date, the Milford Memory Box has been found 12 times, and there have been three memories added to the album! There’s room for many more pictures and postcards, so I’ll be letting them accumulate in the box a while longer before moving some of the older ones here.

For those of you who are also interested in letterboxing, I recently learned that there’s a letterbox within 30 feet of this geocache! It’s called Extra Cheese, and yes, there’s a story with that name - but I’m going to make you visit the link to find out what it is. It’s actually a fitting companion to the Milford Memory Box, since it’s all about a memory of a special friend. I encourage you to check it out while you’re in the area!
